Out of Bounds
Manchester Literature Festival
Saturday 20 October 2012
6pm - Waterstones
Cultureword and Bloodaxe poetry bring you an alternative A to Z of the nation. Out of Bounds is a definitive anthology that brings together new and established black and Asian writers and places them firmly on the map of what is great and not so great about Britain. It stops off in the Highlands and Islands, skirts the North East coast from Whitley Bay to the sands of Bridlington, wanders lonely through the Lake District and Yorkshire, criss-crosses the North West, then climbs the mountains of Wales before descending to the Black Country and Southern England. Tonight’s event features readings from local contributors Maya Chowdhry, Segun Lee-French, Nabila Jameel, Pete Kalu, Shamshad Khan and John Siddique.

When Black is Red
Join Peepal Tree Press for the launch of Red, an anthology of contemporary black British poetry. Red embraces life, history, despair and triumph, the everyday and the visionary. Poets Maya ChowdhrySimon MurrayMonika-Akila Richards and Forward Poetry Prize winner Daljit Nagra will read from and discuss their contributions to the anthology.

Wordoodles at The Big Chill
Maya will be performing with an eclectic range of artistes. Doodlebug continues to present mindfood from up North with it’s intemate TV style midnight soiree of inspired conversations, wordflow, nutritious extracts, and plenty of tasty whispers courtesy of…wordoodles.
